I couldn’t think of a more fitting family session to post during Thanksgiving week than this one! We ventured out to Route 66 Park to photograph one of the first families I met when we moved to St. Louis 15 years ago. Of course, that was back when they didn’t have kids yet and we only had one–so I feel like this is a family that we’ve gotten to do life with over these past several years as our families have changed and grown. Trying to get settled and make a new home after moving is no small task. So I will never forget the day I met Jenny, as I had yet to make any friends in our new place. I could tell you exactly where we were, right down to the exact table and chair. That is because the minute I met her, I knew I had just met a kind soul who would become a close friend. And who would’ve known on that day that one day much later we would be at a different restaurant sitting at a different table turning our little after dinner mint wrappers into the shape of children’s contacts so I could show her how I put a contact in a child’s eye. As life would have it, we both went on medical journey with a child at about the same time–right down to the same two surgeries with contacts and patching!
If you know my husband or Jenny’s husband at all, you will have no doubt that when you put the two of them together you will have a great time. So to say we had some fun photographing this session with those two in the mix isn’t a surprise. And because I photographed the Wescoat family back to back with another family we both love dearly, it seemed like the whole session became one big party. We weren’t short on laughter, that’s for sure! Here are a few favorites from the afternoon…
